Abstract
Piles are frequently subjected to a combination of axial and lateral loads. The current study is devoted to simulate vertical single pile embedded in loose sand under the effect of inclined loads. 3D numerical model of the soil-pile system has been developed using Midas GTS/NX 2019 FEM package. The study revealed that the pile behaves either as like-rigid pile or as like-flexible pile depending upon pile length, pile diameter and load inclination angle with vertical direction (α). A simple mathematical expression was developed relating the ultimate inclined load (Ru) with the load inclination angle (α). When α ≥ 15°, the displacement of the pile head is mainly in the lateral direction, and little is in the vertical direction. When the inclination angle (α) equal to and bigger than 15°, the load producing displacement vector (U) equal to 0.1D is related to the load producing pile head rotation equal to 1.0°.
